Blake Lapthorn give All Umbrella Companies Are Equal their “stamp of approval”.

All Umbrella Companies Are Equal are pleased to announce that they have spoken with Blake Lapthorn, one of the UK’s leading employment law specialists to secure their involvement in our discussions around the “Straight Talking” Charter which was launched in April.

Blake Lapthorn have extensive experience working with the recruitment and umbrella industries. Oliver Weiss, Associate at Blake Lapthorn, has commented; “It makes a refreshing change for companies competing against each other to stand together towards a common goal and we recognise the need for a self-regulating body to drive up standards of compliance. We are keen to give our stamp of approval for both the charter and the work that has been done by All Umbrella Companies Are Equal so far.”

Lisa Keeble, one of the founding members of All Umbrella Companies are Equal commented; “The legislation which surrounds both the recruitment and umbrella sectors is complicated and ever-changing and therefore specialist knowledge is required to guarantee compliance. However, after extensive talks with members it would seem that many have been presented with contracts that are purported to be over-arching when, in reality, they are far from that. This leaves the umbrella company, through no fault of their own, at risk of investigation and possible prosecution from HMRC. The complications arise as a result of the framework required for this type of business crossing boundaries between tax, employment and contract law. Without extensive knowledge on all legal and financial aspects, it becomes easy for companies to become confused.”

Members who carry the ‘Straight Talking’ logo are all working together towards unifying practices within the industry and, only three months on, changes are already being made to contracts, an on-going practice which aims to ultimately deliver uniformity and compliance across the whole sector.

The members of All Umbrella Companies Are Equal will have their first meeting later this month, where there will be the opportunity to discuss the charter and some of the suggested additions. The group will also consider how the companies can work together to help raise the profile of the industry.

The meeting will be hosted at Blake Lapthorn’s offices in St John’s Lane, London EC1M 4DB on the 26th June.
